Today, I will share my friend Noni’s recipe for Piyaaz Gosht (Mutton Onion Curry). She was a fantastic cook. Anything that she used to cook always turned out delicious and tasty. Sadly she passed away 1 1/2 years ago. I miss her a lot and want to remember her for her good sense of humour, laughter and determination to lead a fulfil life and most of all for her delicious cooking. I had to coax this recipe out of her least it got lost or forgotten. Now it is there for everyone to use and appreciate her style of cooking. This dish is very simple but yet so delicious.
Piyaaz Gosht (Mutton Onion Curry)
1 Kg Lamb or Goat meat
Two onions finely sliced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
Block of ginger = 4 inch piece of ginger?
Block of garlic = 6 cloves of garlic?
Put them in the saucepan and let it cook until the meat is really soft and the onion is all dissolved.
Add a little oil and cook for 5-10 minutes. (Don’t add too much oil as the fried onions will have some oil in them too!)
Now fry two sliced onions until they are brown. Add these to the meat.
Chop 2 onions and add them to the meat raw.
Just cook until the raw onions are soft and become part of the fried onions.
Add green chillies and two chopped tomatoes and cook on low heat for 10 minutes.
It is ready to be eaten with roti and salad.
